What impression do you make when you talk to people? Do they see you as intelligent and capable or does your grammar make them feel uneasy, less trusting, or even dismiss you as unimportant.
I want to share an important true story with you. When I was 16 I was in the backseat of my friend's car when he was stopped for speeding. The officer approached the car and asked for his license. He could see my friend was highschool age and asked "Is you a student?" instead of asking "Are you a student?" He made a number of other grammar errors after this. He made so many errors that we had a difficult time understanding what he was asking. He wrote the ticket and we continued. After teasing our friend about getting a ticket we immediately began talking about the poor grammar of the officer. He did not represent his department or city well. The officer made these errors without realizing it. You may easily see the error in saying "Is you a student?", however, you make many other errors daily without realizing you make them, just as this officer did.
As an officer, you know the public does not distinguish between officers. If one officer leaves a person with a bad impression, that person views all police officers through the same filter. If you use bad grammar then your citizenry will assume all officers in your department are illiterate. Do you want to create that impression in your city?

- The witness said the suspects gun was nickle plated but she later said it was dark in color.
Answer: NONE - Some have multiple errors in them.
Not one of these sentences is correct and if you cannot find the errors, you desperately need to improve your grammar because you are making these same mistakes.
Poor grammar labels you as unintelligent, incompetent, and even untrustworthy. This can be devastating during an interview with a department or if you are trying to move into a new position. One grammar mistake can keep you from being hired. Bad grammar makes co-workers and other officers view you as unqualified. It makes friends and strangers feel you cannot be trusted with anything important.
People judge you by how well you write and speak. If you want people to stand up and pay attention to what you have to say, you must use proper grammar. If you want people to see you as intelligent and articulate instead of ignorant and uneducated, you must use proper grammar.

Every time you write or speak, you are judged by the grammar you use. So, how do people judge you? Do they think you are intelligent or uneducated. Do they have confidence in you or do they distrust you because of how you speak?
NEVER assume that because you do not notice your grammar mistakes no one else notices them either. They do notice, but they do not say anything. They simply label you as unintelligent and ignore what you are saying.
Don't be embarrassed when speaking or writing because of your bad grammar ever again. When you step on a podium to give yoru side of the story to reporters, you want to give the best impression possible because everyone will see it.
